Sophie Virji helps private and public corporations manage their tax controversies and formulate litigation strategies.

Overview

Sophie handles all aspects of the tax dispute resolution process and advocates complex written and oral legal positions for appearances before the Court of Queen’s Bench, the Tax Court of Canada, the Federal Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court of Canada. In addition to engaging in negotiations with the Canada Revenue Agency and the Department of Justice prior to judicial proceedings, Sophie provides advice on Canada Revenue Agency corporate audits and works with her clients to complete the audit process. Sophie has been engaged on a wide array of tax matters including transfer pricing, international taxation and corporate reorganizations.

Sophie regularly writes and speaks on taxation matters and is on the board of directors for the Canadian Petroleum Tax Society in addition to being a member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Calgary Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, the Association of Women Lawyers and the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers.

Sophie is fluent in English and French.
